DESPITE the ravages of Storm Imogen, year 10 geographers from St Nicholas’ School in Church Crookham spent four days in February working on Freshwater Bay in the Isle of Wight.
The pupils were assessing the changes to the shape of the beach. As part of their GCSE controlled assessment, they had to investigate whether the sea defences were sufficient to protect the surrounding area from flooding.
The girls used Geographical Information Systems to map the landuse and elevation, and they produced flood risk maps of the area around Afton nature reserve.
