THE next generation of engineers, scientists and architects flocked to Weydon School’s annual careers evening last week.

More than 350 students and their parents grasped the opportunity to browse displays and speak to employees of both local and national businesses representing a wide array of industry sectors.

Companies including satellites manufacturer Skynet, Heathrow airport, Virgin Care and Tindle Newspapers joined British Army recruiters and the ambulance service in the school hall.

While a wealth of further education institutions took up residence in the canteen ranging from Farnham College to the University for the Creative Arts and Merrist Wood agricultural college, who brought along a Madagascan spitting cockroach.

“The event was a huge success,” said Weydon headteacher John Winter.

“The careers evening is such a valuable experience for our students at this important stage of their education and provides them with important information and advice as they consider future options and choices.”
