A FERNHURST man electrocuted himself by connecting wires to his wrists, attached to the mains power supply, an inquest heard. David John Gandy, 56, was found dead at his bungalow in Paddock Close, Fernhurst on May 8, after his landlord and a couple he was working for, became concerned when he did not report for work. After calling Mr Gandy and repeatedly knocking on his front door, they decided to break into his home where they discovered his body. Mr Gandy, who worked as a handyman, had lived with his mother in the bungalow until her death more than three years ago. The inquest was told Mr Gandy had suffered from illness as a child, had never married and "kept himself to himself". Mr Gandy had been told he would have to move out of the Paddock Close bungalow but had found another flat and was planning to auction some of his possessions which would not fit in his new home. The inquest was told Mr Gandy "gave no outward impression of being unhappy with these arrangements". A post-mortem confirmed Mr Gandy had died from electrocution and police concluded there were no suspicious circumstances or third party involved in the death. Martin Milward, assistant deputy coroner for West Sussex, said it was clear Mr Gandy had intended to "severely harm himself" and recorded a verdict of suicide.
