AROUND 200 youngsters have enjoyed free borough-wide skate, BMX and scooter workshops this summer, hosted by Waverley Borough Council.
Haslemere Skatepark saw 51 young people take part in a session last month, and riders of all levels and abilities - aged seven to 18 – whether starting out on the ramp as a total beginner, to perfecting much more complex tricks, all had a chance to show off their skills and take them to the next level with some professional coaching.
The borough council’s head of communities Kelvin Mills said: “Waverley’s skatepark workshops are always very popular and this year’s events were no exception.
“Everyone who took part had a great time; getting some coaching, seeing some amazing stunts performed by the pros and taking part in a competition with prizes, including skateboards and t-shirts.
“Many familiar faces, who went to the skatepark workshops in 2015 and the years before, attended this year. Having worked on their skills throughout the year they were excited to pick up some new tricks and see how they fared in the competition.”
Professional skaters, BMXers and scooter riders from King Ramps were on hand to give tuition, advice and perform the latest tricks, as well as judge the hotly contested competition. The events were made possible thanks to donations from Places for People, Haslemere Town Council, Godalming Town Council and The Betty Riseley Trust.
