THE theme of this year’s Highfield South Farnham’s Summer Fair should have been fun in the sun as the playing fields took on a festival like atmosphere.

Jazz group Swing Up, with Ollie West on vocals and piano and Cameron Barnett on double bass, provided the perfect back drop to the relaxing afternoon.

Classic fairground such as hook-a-duck and the bouncy castles proved as popular as ever, while new twists on old favourites like the jelly filled bucket lucky dip led to shrieks of excitement.

“The water pistol battle was certainly a hit with children and parents asking to be squirted just to cool down,” said co-chair of the PTFA, Fiona Coulson.

The popularity of the penalty shoot-out and the basketball challenge showed the children’s sporty side wasn’t deterred by the soaring temperatures. And there was a chance for a break in the shade with the Sainsbury’s Lego Create Swap Shop, tile decorating and sand art.

Thanks to Morgan’s the butchers in The Ridgeway, the barbecue was a quality affair, washed down with Doom Bar courtesy of The Star Inn.

“We were so lucky to have the weather on our side, but the success of the day was also thanks to all the parents and teachers who turned out to help at the event,’ concluded Corinne Collins, PTFA co-chair.

“With the band playing and the children having fun, it was the perfect summer afternoon.”
