PETERSFIELD'S revamped open-air swimming pool has re-opened. And as if to mark the new spring and summer season, the sun hasn't stopped shining on the Tor Way pool. Phase one of the pool's retiling was completed during the close season, although pool trustees were keen to emphasise that the fundraising for the next stage of the vital work must continue. Town mayor Paul Molloy and his wife, June, signalled the coming of the new season by opening the pool officially on Saturday. Swimmers can now take advantage of the newly- tiled pool from 11am to 6pm daily, with a break from 2pm to 3pm. Although the pool opened a week later than scheduled, due to hold-ups during the retiling work, staff have decided to prolong the season a week longer until September 28. Places for swimming lessons are still available, and swim-fit classes will also take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. Thanks were sent out by trustees to Jo Harfield, of MEBS Gym on Rushes Road, Petersfield, which helped raise money for the pool by selling tiles to local businesses and clients. People who still wish to buy tiles and boost pool coffers can do so at The Herald offices in Petersfield High Street. Trustees also hope to raise money by hosting stalls at events in the town centre in June and July, and entering a team in the Liphook and District Businessmen's Association's sponsored cycle ride later this year. n Petersfield Round Table presented a cheque for £500 to Petersfield open-air swimming pool chairman Rodney Clarke on opening day. Most of the money was raised from last year's bonfire celebrations at Bell Hill, which was organised by Round Table members. Round Tablers Steve Jacob, Mike Robinson and Andy Guest presented the cheque. Later this year, the group hope to raise more funds for local charitable organisations with the annual Ups and Downs bike ride, which is organised by Mike.
