A ONCE in a blue moon sight was witnessed by people across Surrey last week.

The dazzling ‘super blue blood moon’ was marvelled at overnight last Wednesday, prompting many Herald readers to grab their cameras and send in some outstanding images of the astronomical phenomenon.

According to the Farnham Astronomical Society, a blue moon occurs when there are two full moons in one month and a supermoon is when the planet is closest to Earth.

The next blue moon will happen in March, although it won’t quite be a super moon. To read more on the origin of the term ‘blue moon’, visit the website www.farnham-as.co.uk.
