A PETERSFIELD supermarket has won an egg-citing challenge for the third year – but the contest was flipping close.
Dozens of shoppers gathered in Rams Walk on Shrove Tuesday for the traditional pancake day race.
Eight teams, including representatives from Robert Dyas, Waterstones and M&Co, took part in the competition to raise funds for Stroud charity Hounds for Heroes.
Waitrose workers Joe Kabanagh and Matt Cotton received a bottle of Champagne after the supermarket won the race for the third year running.
But they didn't batter the competition, with only one second separating them from runners-up Costa Coffee.
Pickett and Pursers were named the fastest runners-up, while Easter eggs were handed out to children during the break.
Pupils at a handful of schools across East Hampshire also took to the playground with their pans on Tuesday morning.
There were cracking races at Liss Junior School and Sheet Primary, where pupils also had a quiz about pancake day and Lent.
Orange house finished top with a remarkable 19 points, followed by turquoise on 16 and purple and lime green on 14 apiece.
