Sir, - The Phillips report has criticised the government over the assurances given during the BSE crisis.
Very small amounts of dioxins are known to cause cancer and yet, again, the government and its scientific advisers are apparently taking the risky option.
They propose to build new incinerators, which produce dioxin instead of tackling the problem of waste at its roots by reducing waste and increasing recycling.
The filtered fly ash from the incinerator is taken to the tip site and made into cakes the size of large straw bales.
These cakes are not sealed and are driven by forklift truck and tipped.
The cakes can break and release Dioxin and other toxic substances into the atmosphere.
At the present time the EU is considering a proposal to ban this type of toxic tip, while Grundons may by allowed to increase the risk of more cancer in the human and animal population.
People who wish to protest can visit the site at Grooms Farm, using existing public footpaths, on November 9 at 3 pm. Hampshire councillors who have to decide are meeting there at this time.
