ALTON Lions Club president Paul Taroni started his two-year term of office by welcoming new member Bretta Rains.

Bretta joined Alton Lions after spending time as a Lions supporter, having volunteered to help in the club’s charitable activities including ‘Contact the Elderly’ tea parties, marshalling at the Alton 10-mile and Downland Challenge races, the Christmas collection and the prostate-testing project.

Alton Lions Club was formed in 1972 and has since become a charitable incorporated organisation and a respected volunteer service organisation within Alton.

Alton Lions is active in community service activities for people in need, fundraising for mainly local charities and people in need together with Lions national and international projects.

Paul said: “To become a Lion is to become an active volunteer, a member of a respected international organisation, a leader in your community and a friend to people in need.”
