SURREY is to become a completely different place to live and work by 2030, according to a draft plan for the future written by council leaders.
A vision for how life will be is being circulated among members at Surrey County Council ahead of a public communication and consultation drive next month.
Called Vision for Surrey in 2030, the plan sets out where changes to services will be made between now and then to develop the county into a “uniquely special place that capitalises on its location and natural assets”.
The draft was presented to councillors at the overview and budget scrutiny meeting last week ahead of sign-off by full council on Tuesday.
The reports says the aim is to make Surrey a place where “everyone has a great start to life, people live healthy and fulfilling lives, everyone is enabled to achieve their full potential and contribute to their community and no one is left behind”.
The council has to make £250 million savings over the next three years with cuts being made right across the board.
Council chief executive Joanna Killian said: “It’s not my vision, it’s something all of us should pay attention to and want to talk about.
“I think it’s really important if we are going to manage with the resources we have to feel we have clear priorities to focus on and allow us to apply the resource we have both money and people, our assets, to make life better for people.”
She added: “My job, on behalf of the council, is to think about how we focus now on that money.”
Ms Killian, who started the role in March, said the sweeping initiatives would mean rapid change to all departments and services and a greater focus on council staff and working practices.
She wants to bring in more flexible working so staff can work remotely and feel better supported and spend more time with clients.
She said: “There is a morale issue and staff want clearer direction and they want under performance in others to be addressed.”
Consultation of the draft plan will start later this month and carry on until September.
