SURREY, which once held the crown as the safest county in England and Wales, has dropped further down the table, according to the latest Home Office figures just published.

The Surrey police force, recently under fire from Waverley councillors over the level of police cover, especially at night, now records the eighth lowest crime rate of the 43 force areas, in a table topped by Dyfed-Powys, Norfolk and Devon and Cornwall.
