THE "jewel in the crown" of Petersfield is getting ready to dazzle the crowds ahead of its 50th year in business.

Around 30 swimmers had a peek at the new-look open-air swimming pool during an open day last Saturday.

Supporters of the landmark have splashed the cash on a number of improvements during the close season. The facility re-opens this weekend with new tiling around the pool edge and roofing over the ladies' changing area.

Committee member Liz Bisset said the open day was a success, with many children booking swimming lessons.

The pool re-opens for the summer season tomorrow with an adults-only session from 9am to 10.30am.
