SIGN up now for Phyllis Tuckwell’s Walk for the Wards 2017 and help raise money for a vital local charity.

This hugely popular annual fundraising event, which this year is sponsored by BakerLaw Solicitors, will take place on Sunday, June 11, from 9.30am, and offers both five and 10-mile routes so walkers can choose which best suits their fitness level and energy reserves.

It will once again start in Tilford, although this time walkers will set off from and return to Waverley Abbey School, rather than Tilford Institute, which has been the start and end point in the past.

Event organiser Fiona Chapman said: “Many of our walkers take part in memory of a loved one. It’s always a very popular community-spirited event, and with a delicious cream tea on offer at the end, it’s easy to see why.”

Both routes take walkers through the rolling Surrey countryside, down past Frensham Common and back up around Tilford. All ages and abilities can take part, and participants can even bring their four-legged friend along too, as dogs are welcome, but they have to be kept on a lead.

“My firm are delighted to have supported the hospice since our inception and this is a fabulous way to blow away cobwebs and raise money for a dedicated cause,” said Amanda Glover, managing partner at BakerLaw solicitors.

Although there is no minimum sponsorship level for Walk for the Wards, all of the money raised will go towards funding the vital care which Phyllis Tuckwell provides for local patients and families who are living with a terminal illness, such as cancer.

Registration is £12 for adults and £5 for children (under-14s), but fees will be higher on the day, so it’s best to sign up in advance. Each participant will be issued with a walker’s pack and some suggestions of ways in which they can fundraise.
