THE Saturday Safari Club, a new group for budding young naturalists, will launch on Saturday, February 20, at Pierrepont Farm in Tilford.
The group will meet once a month and take part in a variety of activities that will get these young naturalists exploring the farm’s wild side.
Led by the farm’s education officer, Annika Rees, each two-hour session will have a seasonal theme looking at lots of different animals and plants.
For those who don’t know much about Pierrepont Farm, it is a dairy farm owned by the Countryside Restoration Trust (CRT) and managed by farmers Michael and Beverly Clear.
The CRT aims to promote wildlife-friendly farming and campaign for a living, working countryside. As a result of these practices, Pierrepont has a number of rich habitats to be explored including a woodland, meadow and pond.
The club is tailored for children aged seven to 11 years old, but an enthusiastic six year old would not be turned away.
Each child will be given a notebook so that they can record their experiences month to month in which ever way they choose, whether that’s drawing pictures of things they’ve found or making notes. It’s their own personal record.
All sessions run from 10am until midday, following February’s session the next session will take place on Saturday, March 19.
The monthly sessions are completely free, all that is asked is that appropriate outdoor clothing is worn and that an adult stays throughout the period.
Booking is essential. For more details or to book a place email Annika Rees at [email protected].
