FARNHAM charity Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care held its annual beer festival, Tankards for Tuckwell, at The Empire on Aldershot’s High Street earlier this month - and it netted a cool £10,000.

The event, on October 5-6, was once again a huge hit with real ale afficianados, who enjoyed sampling a range of more than 60 ales and ciders, all sourced from local breweries.

Curry was also on offer, and everyone was entertained by live music from local bands The Dolomites, Sing Squad, The Hedge Inspectors, and The Why Band.

A raffle added to the total amount raised, which topped £10,000, all of which will go directly towards helping fund the supportive and end of life care which Phyllis Tuckwell provides for patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer.

Every day Phyllis Tuckwell supports more than 250 patients, relatives and carers – in their own homes, in the community, at the hospice in Farnham and at the Beacon Centre in Guildford – but as the NHS/Government only covers 20 per cent of its costs, it has to raise more than £20,000 a day to do this, which is why fundraising events such as Tankards for Tuckwell are so important.

“We would like to thank everyone who came along to support Tankards for Tuckwell, especially our wonderful volunteers who helped pull the pints!” said Laura Moody, events fundraising manager at Phyllis Tuckwell.

“The atmosphere was amazing and everyone had a brilliant time!”
