A TEA dance led by Strictly Come Dancing’s Jenny Thomas was a sell-out success at Farnham Maltings and was enjoyed by both beginners and experienced dancers.

The session provided a taste of 1940s styles lindy hop and swing and 1920s style Charleston. It even came with a cream tea - a perfect combination.

Hosted by Sir Matthew Bourne’s internationally renowned dance company, New Adventures, and led by Strictly choreographer Jenny, it was a chance to learn some authentic dance styles from the Second World War.

Farnham Maltings’ arts and health project manager Christine Lee said: “Dance has such fantastic health benefits, not just because it’s good to get moving, but everyone was laughing together and meeting new people as well.

“Through the Maltings’ partnership with New Adventures and Re:Bourne we’re delighted to be able to give such special opportunities for people in Farnham to be creative alongside internationally-renown dancers.

“This tea dance was a launch to the dance part of a special project, My Shout, which will feature a new dance created with Re:Bourne and we can’t wait to see what else is in store.”

For anyone interested in the My Shout dance project, places are still available on February 28 at Farnham Maltings. Participants can be anyone aged 55 or over with some dance or movement experience.
