A HEADTEACHER left her pupils speechless last week after putting on a surprise fire-eating show at Waverley Abbey School’s annual bonfire and firework display.
There was added excitement in the build-up to Waverley Abbey’s display this year as the children had been told to expect a very special fire-eating performance from two teachers, who had undertaken training in fire-eating.
Speculation was at fever pitch when the duo unmasked themselves and everyone was amazed that it was Kate Redman, the headteacher (pictured right) and Debs Down, a year six teacher.
“What followed was a beautifully elegant and professional, choreographed routine,” said a school spokesman. “It made bonfire night all the more fantastic - we are so proud of them!”
Pupils had all been told about the dangers of fire in the days leading up to bonfire night and knew that this display was potentially a very dangerous thing to do, and should not be attempted by anyone that was not trained.
