Paul Forde, the 15-year-old youngster recently snapped up by Liphook Cycles Racing Team, took part in his first juvenile open event, the GHS London West 10-mile Championships at Aldermaston on Saturday.

Forde took the silver medal and earned a place in the national finals in September. He is certainly a rider to watch.

The Liphook Cycles senior team contested the Southern Counties road race championship near Edenbridge on Sunday. Peter Kench, Roger Morgan, Justin Hoy and the newly crowned Wessex Division circuit champion, Paul Pickup, made up a powerful squad.

Hoy has already won the Southern Counties time trial championship this year and the road race title was the next target.

Pickup was the one that all the riders were watching and this allowed Morgan to jump off the front, followed by four others. Immediately, the other Liphook riders moved forward to control the front of the peloton.

Morgan managed to stay clear to take the Southern Counties title, with Hoy winning the bunch sprint and tying up another good weekend for the Liphook Cycles Racing Team.

Rother Valley's Chris Shepherd recorded a fine 59-04 in the same event.

Northover's Vets Team had a quiet weekend, but Pete Pickers picked up sixth place in the Bognor Regis CC 50-mile time trial on Sunday on the new Fontwell course. His time of 1-57-59 was the quickest he has ridden for several years.
