ONE of the district's long-serving landlords has said an emotional farewell to regulars at a village pub near Petersfield.

There were tears and cheers in Liss Forest last Saturday as Anne Manning pulled her last pint at The Temple.

Anne was believed to be the longest-serving publican in the Petersfield area as she took over the hostelry more than 20 years ago. She previously worked at The Jolly Drovers in Hillbrow and was renowned for her roast dinners and warm hospitality.

Her retirement was a shock to many regulars and villagers as Anne only decided to call time at the bar a few days before announcing her shock decision.

Anne, who first appeared behind The Temple bar around 22 years ago, told regulars she hadn't been on holiday for 16 years.

She was visibly moved by the response of the large number of villagers who popped in last weekend to say their goodbyes.

It remains to be seen what will happen to the interior of The Temple, which was characterised by Anne's collection of jugs and bottles.

The 60-something plans to spend time in Yorkshire and Cyprus in the immediate future while a new licensee was expected to take over this week.
