A NORTH Warnborough teenager has been honoured at the Hampshire Schools Sports Federation awards.

Hannah Haugvik was part of the Hampshire Schools Intermediate Girls’ Heptathlon Team which had fantastic success throughout 2016, with all the girls included in the honours list at the November 10 event, where they were awarded The President’s Trophy.

The Federation’s annual Michael Austin Harlick Awards were the 27th instalment and were organised with support form Hampshire County Council.

Hannah, joined by teammates Amaya Scott, Maisie Grice and Iona Sheerin were commended for the superb results throughout the year, particularly two dominant championship displays.

The team was put together in June to represent Hampshire in the South East Schools combined event where they went on to secure first place with a best performance score of 13,284 points, almost 600 points clear of their nearest rivals.

The team then qualified for the National final and after a close competition, they were once again victorious setting a new Championship Best Performance, 574 points ahead of second place and 50 points more than the previous best performance.

Former Robert May’s student Hannah finished 23rd with new personal bests in 800m and javelin while teammate Amaya Scott finished third in the National Final gaining an International Schools vest, and Maisie Grice finished 18th with Iona Sheerin in 33rd.

Peter Edgar, Hampshire County Council’s executive member for education, said: “The county council aims to ensure that sporting opportunities are provided for all young people in its schools, and the awards given this year demonstrate what a wide range of sports young people have been inspired to learn, and even to excel in.

“My congratulations go to all of this year’s winners for their fantastic achievements. The high standard of sporting talent we have seen at the awards is testament to the hard work of the young people, their coaches and their parents.

“It also highlights the value of having a county-wide outdoor education and physical education service, which can bring together young sportspeople from across a wide area.”
