YOUNGSTERS got “wiped out” on Bank Holiday Monday thanks to the Whitehill and Bordon Town Partnership.

The Wipe Out Challenge invited youth teams to take part in an obstacle contest based on the BBC show Total Wipeout. The Town Partnership said its aim was to provide “activities for the local community with the intention of creating a sense of belonging, fun and socialisation”, with Monday’s event ticking every box.  

The day was co-ordinated by Angie Marker, chairman of the Town Partnership’s Youth Partnership Group, which consists of youth providers and volunteers who work together to provide activities and identify gaps in services for young people.

“This year the Town Partnership chose to put on an event just for young people (aged 13 to 17) as this is an age group we felt lacks facilities in the Whitehill and Bordon area,” she said.

“The Wipe Out youth event offered young people the opportunity to enjoy a physical, fun and competitive activity, encouraged and supported by adults and peers.

“We had 12 teams enter from a variety of local clubs - the Bordon Air Cadets, Wey Valley Football Club, Farnham Sea Cadets, Alton Rugby Club, the Crossover Youth Project, Bordon Youth Centre and the Whitehill and Blackmoor Scouts.

“Every young person who participated in the event received a medal,” Ms Marker added.

“This was very much the community event we intended to provide, which was enjoyed by young people, families and volunteers. The feedback from the community and participants was very positive and we intend to hold the event again next year.”

She thanked volunteers, committee members and sponsors for their money and time.

The day was sponsored by town councillors Adam Carew, Alan Waterhouse and Sally Pond, as well as by Radian housing group and Community First.

Organisers thanked Whitehill Town Council for the free use of Mill Chase Recreation Ground.
