TEMPORARY traffic lights are to be installed in Alma Lane for a period of up to two months starting next week.

The roadworks will allow gas company SGN to upgrade the gas network in the Upper Hale area, beginning on Monday, June 6.

SGN will undertake the work in phases, and has been given until July 26 by Surrey County Council to complete the work.

A spokesman for SGN said: “This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

“When we are working in Alma Lane, temporary traffic lights will be in place to ensure everyone’s safety. The lights will be manually controlled during peak times to help ease traffic congestion and we will be working extended hours and weekends where necessary.

“We understand that roadworks can be frustrating and would like to thanks the local community and road users for their patience while we carry out this essential work.
