MEMBERS of thriving Haslemere Tennis Club are celebrating after serving up a successful year.
Not only has membership increased, with club activities also on the rise, but two women’s teams have scooped titles in the East Hampshire League.
The club has nine active teams competing in the district league, which is played throughout the summer – and the women’s A and B teams stole the honours by winning Division One and Division Three respectively.
The men’s A team finished fifth in Division One while the B team just missed out on promotion to the top table when they finished fourth in Division Two, pipped at the post by The Avenue Tennis Club from Bedhampton.
Haslemere’s mixed team finished sixth in Division One while the veterans finished third in Division One of their league.
The close of the summer was marked by the annual barbecue tournament and was won by new member Catherine Harris-Hughes, with Carl Pickford, Viv Shorleson, Jaime Urquhart and Craig Urquhart the runners-up.
Now, attentions have turned to the winter league, which runs until March.
