THE Environment Agency (EA) has warned "significant flooding can be expected" on the site of the relocated Brightwell Tennis Club in coming years.

A victim of the recent rain, Waverley Borough Council's Riverside development in Farnham again flooded this week when the adjacent River Wey burst its banks.

And despite Waverley maintaining that the site's long-term flooding risk is minimal, the EA has confirmed most of the completed development will remain in a "functional floodplain".

Up-to-date EA modelling of the River Wey at Riverside shows that a large swathe of Riverside, including the site of Brightwell Tennis Club's five new courts and pavilion, will have a 20 per cent chance of flooding annually.

This contrasts with the comments of Waverley executive member, Adam Taylor-Smith, who in January said the assessed flooding risk for the site was just one per cent annually.
