THERE could be an end in sight for the motoring nightmare at Tesco's traffic lights in Wey Hill.

A spokesman for Surrey County Council told The Herald this week that a date has been "pencilled in " for the work to start the week commencing Monday, January 21.

The initial work is expected to last for around six weeks with work to pelican crossings understood to continue beyond that.

The roadworks when completed could bring an end to nearly two years of tailbacks and traffic chaos caused by the lights to the entrance of the store since it opened more than two years ago.

The £95,000 needed to solve the problems were claimed back from Tesco from a bond paid to SCC by developers.

The money is intended to put right a list of remedial works, outstanding since the lights were first installed.

Among work expected to take place following complaints about the problems and dangers of the existing lights from residents, pedestrians and motorists, are the installation of pelican instead of zebra crossing and lowing the lips on kerbing.

Work is also expected on the timing of the traffic light signals to improve the phasing of the lights and control and priority of traffic.
