FOLK attending Hit the Limelight’s New Year Rock ’n’ Roll Show at Medstead village hall enjoyed a “highly evocative evening” being entertained by The Dolomites (formerly The Toledos).
According to a review by giggoer Paul Cockram, the band comprised three guitars, a drummer and Daisy, the female vocalist. The songs covered the 1950s and 1960s, bringing memories of a period rich in talent, with covers featuring artists such as The Everly Brothers, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, Lulu, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones and Roy Orbison.
Writes Mr Cockram: “The songs were delivered with high energy and enthusiasm, to such an extent that members of the audience were joining in dancing, singing along and tapping to the music.
“A show of hands clearly indicated the wish for a return performance, hopefully for next year.
“Thanks must not only go to The Dolomites, but also to Mike Overy and the Limelight team for sourcing and presenting yet another excellent show.”
And Mr Cockram added: “All in all, a great evening of entertainment provided by The Dolomites, with the audience providing the appreciation, participation and enthusiasm.”
The next Hit the Limelight show at Medstead village hall is on Friday, October 12, when Flying Visit will perform.
The Dolomites plan to return to Medstead to perform next January.
The ethos of Hit the Limelight is to provide quality affordable entertainment and more opportunities for people to socialise, with surplus proceeds going toward improving Medstead village hall.
