A severe weather warning has been issued for Surrey and Hampshire, with more heavy rain forecast on Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning.

The Met Office has issued a ‘yellow’ warning, valid from 5pm Wednesday to 6am Thursday, saying heavy rain and showers will bring a chance of some flooding and disruption.

The warning reads: “Following heavy showers on Wednesday, a band of heavy rain will move northeastwards on Wednesday evening, followed by further heavy showers overnight.

“15 to 25 mm rain is likely to fall widely, with 30 to 40 mm in a few places over a 12 hour period.

“With the ground already saturated, this may lead to some flooding. Strong winds are also likely, with gusts 40 to 50 mph possible along coasts.”

Motorists are warned that spray and flooding on roads will probably make journey times longer, while bus and train services are also likely to be affected.

“Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible,” added the Met Office alert.
