FOUR Bordon post boxes containing letters and packages have been raided in the last week.
The first raid took place at Bordon Post Office, on the A325 Camp Road, overnight on Thursday last week when thieves forced the letter box to the building open and stole a basket containing letters.
Police later recovered the basket in nearby woodland. All the letters and parcels had been opened.
Just four days later, overnight on Monday, looters struck again targeting three separate post boxes in the town. Mail in boxes in Washford Lane, Firgrove Road and another nearby post box was stolen, some of which has been recovered and returned to the post office.
Now police and the townÕs post office are appealing to residents who posted items in any of the post boxes, which were targeted, to contact the post office.
Pc Phil Shore, of Whitehill Police, said that anyone who used the post boxes should get in contact with the post office.
ÒIt is worth them checking with the post office to see whether their mail has got to the destination to where they posted it,Ó he said.
ÒWe have taken all the mail that we have recovered back to the post office.Ó
WPc Lisa Day, of Whitehill Police, added: ÒThe post office is happy for people to ring up and they will go out to collect any mail that has been found.Ó
Since the first incident, a week ago, further parcels and letters have been found in woodland at the rear of Savile Crescent.
A spokesperson for the townÕs post office said staff were currently searching through the recovered mail to match the envelopes with their contents.
ÒWe have forwarded a lot of mail on that has been matched up,Ó she said.
ÒWe are telling people that if they think that their mail has been damaged in any way when they receive it they should contact the Royal Mail customer services.
ÒWe are trying our best to match it up. I think we are doing quite well. Some of the letters have not been opened up at all and so we are just forwarding them straight on.Ó
She added: ÒIt is very annoying. I cannot believe that someone would do it.Ó
Anyone who saw anything suspicious when posting letters or passing any of the affected post boxes should contact Pc Ian Houghton at Whitehill Police Station on 0845 045 45 45.
Anyone who believes that their mail has been damaged upon receiving it should contact the Royal Mail customer services department on 08457 740740.
