THE landlord of the Bat and Ball pub in Boundstone has vowed to continue the fight against the venue's potential closure - urging residents to continue their support.
An application from the developers, Forays, to build three homes on the site was put into Waverley Borough Council last month, provoking an angry backlash from many of the pub's regulars.
After ten years running and living at the pub, Andy Bujok is determined to remain there. He has organised a series of events to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee in a bid to reverse its fortunes.
An interview two weeks ago highlighted the plight of the pub, with Mr Bujok saying they faced a "use it or lose it" scenario.
The Herald has received letters from residents who value it as a strong community facility, which has been in the area for at least the last 85 years.
Mr Bujok said: "We have had a lot of phone calls about this, but we still need more support as it is an on-going issue. We have had letters from people who used to drink here years ago and are no longer in the area, but are up in arms about it."
Several residents' petitions and a number of complaints have been sent to Waverley Borough Council in support of the pub.
A spokesperson for the council commented: "This is a complicated application which will be given careful consideration even before going to the planning committee, which may not happen until the middle of June," she said.
Concerned resident Freddie Dawson has been at the heart of the campaign to save the pub.
She said: "The Bat and Ball is a busy pub, which offers good ale, theme nights, quiz nights, eating area, caters for family groups and is an excellent pub for locals and those further afield."
Events planned for the Jubilee at the Bat and Ball include a 15-piece jazz band on June 2, local rock and blues group Old Blue Moses, and a number of young bands.
A summer barbecue is also in the pipeline.
