AN "outstanding" primary school near Petersfield has celebrated a milestone with the official opening of a new classroom.

Rogate primary, which was under threat of closure in 2008 with less than 40 pupils on the register, has been revitalised and in six years has gone from strength to strength.

"The school has been on quite a journey but thanks to the tireless work of school governors, staff, parents and the fantastic support of the community, Rogate primary was saved and its future secured," said headteacher Mandy Hall.

With numbers rising steadily, and judged by Ofsted as outstanding several years ago, the school roll has now more than doubled to 84 pupils.

Now, the addition of a new classroom has enabled Rogate Primary School to have a dedicated space for the 15-strong reception class of Acorns.
