ALTON town councillors have taken a firm stand against a proposed "hike" in car park charges.
The proposal, by East Hampshire District Council, to double Alton's car park fees, has been given a definite 'thumbs down" with councillors objecting to any increase and asking for one tariff which would enable parking at 20 pence for up to an hour in all town centre car parks.
