COUNCILLORS have given the plans for 82 homes on the town council-owned Penns Field site, which backs onto Heathfield Road, the thumbs up despite continuing reservations about access. Speaking at a meeting of the town council planning committee, Richard Besant, acting chairman of the Petersfield Neighbourhood Plan steering group, the body charged with coming up with a blueprint for development in Petersfield, told town councillors that housing developer Kebbell hadn't addressed the important issue. "At its last open day, Kebbell said it would look at alternatives and it hasn't chosen to to so," he claimed. "There is an opportunity for the town council to look at the access onto Pulens Lane," said Mr Besant, who cited "a nasty bend used by children" and other problems. He suggested that the town council instead look at access from Penns Place and Rival Moor Road. And he warned that construction traffic through Heathfield would be "disastrous".
