WHITEHILL Town Council has given the thumbs up to new parking restrictions that will make it safer for pupils to walk to Woodlea School, in Atholl Road, Bordon.
Hampshire County Council is proposing to put double-yellow lines on junctions in Alpine Road, Atholl Road, Forest Road, Montrose Close, Monument Chase, Overdale Walk, South Hurst and Sutherland Close Close.
It also proposes markings on the south, east and west side of Atholl Road to stop people parking at all times.
Adam Carew, the deputy mayor of Whitehill, said he had also organised the introduction of speed bumps in the road leading to the school, and added that the new parking restrictions would end congestion outside the school in the mornings and afternoons.
He said: "I do know the school is in favour of it but, of course, the question is how the county council enforce it. I haven't seen a traffic warden along there for some time."
Headteacher Louise Peace told the Bordon Herald: "Atholl Road had a lot of bends and so it is difficult to park safely. We don't want to offend our neighbours, but our priority is the children and the reason for these restrictions is to keep as much traffic away from the school as possible to make it safer for the pupils."
