IT was Thunderbirds are go and F.A.B at Stagecoach Performing Arts School in Farnborough earlier this month when Dee Anderson visited the students at Wavell School.
Dee is daughter of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, creators of iconic TV shows Thunderbirds, Stingray, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90 and many more.
A successful actress and singer in her own right, Dee has written a musical ‘The Dream Makers’ and chosen Stagecoach Farnborough as the first company to perform the show.
Dee spent the morning with the students observing their rehearsals for the show and took question and answer sessions with each of the classes.
She told students she still receives hundreds of letters from children across the world who have been inspired by her parents’ TV shows and this inspired her to write the show in the spirit of the shows from the 60s and 70s.
‘The Dream Makers’ features three children from different decades with different issues relevant to their time. The show involves magical adventures with witches and fairies in a fantasy world of song and dance following the children on a journey of discovery.
The show will be performed at Wavell School on December 9 when Dee and members of her production company will be returning as special guests to see the first ever performance of the show.
Principal of Stagecoach Farnborough, Peter Grant, said: “It is very exciting to be working with Dee Anderson because I really liked the concept of the show when I first spoke to Dee about it.
“I thought it would be a great for our theatre school and knew that the students were more than capable of rising to the challenges of a new show, especially with support from the writer herself.”
Anyone aged four to 18 can enrol at Stagecoach. With a maximum of 18 students per class Stagecoach Farnborough provides quality training in drama, dance and singing at weekends and is for two kinds of young people: the “performers”, those keen to train for a stage career, and the “explorers”, who see Stagecoach as a chance to stretch themselves, make new friends, learn new skills and discover how much they can grow.
Next term Main school students (aged six to 18) are looking forward preparing for a world record-breaking attempt with a very special performance of Walt Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
