Dates are still unclear as to when Tilford’s East Bridge will be closed for refurbishment after a shocking car accident left the bridge’s barriers in tatters in January 2017.
Although Surrey County Council (SCC) previously predicted the bridge would be closed for “up to six months” starting in late April, a council spokesperson has since confirmed the work is “still a few months away” and will likely be delayed until July or August.
As reported by the Herald last month, the impending closure is a major worry for Tilford locals and business owners, cutting the village in half as well as restricting access to the widely enjoyed and popular paddling spot at its busiest time of year.
SCC says the repairs are essential to ensure safety for all, however, and must take place over the summer months when “river levels are lower and the weather is drier”.
