TILFORD Road opened again to traffic last Friday after a £550,000 scheme to keep taps running in The Bourne was completed one month ahead of schedule.

South East Water began work to lay the new 1.3-mile water main along the road on Monday, September 19, expecting it would take until December 23 to complete.

The new 12-inch diameter main was needed to deliver a more secure, robust water supply to existing and future customers in the region. The smaller water main was reaching its capacity and would not have been able to cope with the expected future demand for water.
