THE Marlborough Head will close its doors for the final time this Sunday (November 13) with Waverley Borough Council set to complete its Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) of the popular East Street pub.

Ahead of the closure, the Greene King-owned pub’s general manager is inviting customers old and new along on Saturday evening to raise a glass and say farewell to ‘The Marlborough’. There will be a live DJ playing from 5pm.

It comes just over a month after Waverley activated its long-awaited CPO for the pub, which the borough council says is a crucial element of its Brightwells regeneration scheme.

The attractive mock Tudor pub building, which dates back to 1929, will be retained as part of Brightwells - albeit transformed into a retail premises to provide an “attractive frontage” to the development.
