THE last pint may have been called a Petersfield bar that has served thirsty townsfolk for the best part of two centuries.
Plans to turn the disused pub on the corner of St Peter's Road into a pair of two-bedroom flats have been submitted by Heroncrest Ltd.
The unit was put on the market last September through Fleurets following the sudden closure of fusionbar-one restaurant and bar.
The owner claimed he was confident of finding a new tenant – only to switch marketing agents to Holloway Iliffe and Mitchell in May.
It now appears that the former Foggy's Bar will follow The Market Inn, White Hart and Green Dragon into the pages of history.
"The existing building has undergone a series of transformations over the recent past, none of which have been commercially successful," said the applicant's design-and-access statement.
"The last use of the ground floor area was a fusion restaurant, but this ceased trading some time ago.
"No other viable business use has been found, resulting in the ground-floor element of the building being left empty for a considerable period of time."
The current Bell Inn building was erected in the mid-1880s but records show that a pub stood on the site more than 60 earlier.
Conversion into housing would end 192 years of pub tradition but admittedly the building's fortunes have been mixed over the last decade.
