A MOTLEY crew of Chiddingfold Tipteerers raised the roof at The Crown Inn on Saturday and Sunday to see in the new year.

John Cowburn, who launched the village mummers group in 2012 and played King George, is also tower captain of St Mary’s belfry and led a celebratory peal of bells at midnight on Monday.

The village almost lost its Tipteerers when some of the cast moved away and it proved hard to get replacements - but the mummers relaunched at full strength in 2018 for St George’s Day and this was their second seasonal appearance with new members.

John said: “We were received very well. Everyone was singing along and we also had some Christmas carols.

“A collection was taken for Chiddingfold Bonfire Fund.”
