FIRE crews based at Haslemere Fire Station, in West Street, has been handed a cheque for £465 from the town’s Waitrose supermarket for The Firefighters Charity.
The money was raised through the supermarket’s Community Matters green token scheme, in which shoppers choose a charity or community group to support by dropping in a token into an in-store collection box.
Watch commander Matt Oakley said: “We had over half the charitable tokens for the month and it shows the level of support that people have for us in the town.
“It is nice people think quite highly of us and to know people think about which charity to support.”
Waitrose Community Matters gives customers a choice of three good causes to donte their token towards. The more tokens a cause gets, the bigger the donation they receive.
Since its launch in 2008, the scheme has donated £14million to local charities across the UK. Each month on average every branch donates £1,000 between three good causes.
