A TONGHAM man has been sentenced to six years' prison for a serious assault and for threatening his victim's wife and children.

Vincent Lamport, 24, of Oxenden Road, admitted leaving a 40-year-old Tongham man with a broken nose and cuts and bruises after an unprovoked attack near The Cricketers pub in Oxenden Road in November 2002.

Lamport was sentenced to four years' prison for grievous bodily harm at Guildford Crown Court last week.

He was jailed for a further two years for perverting the course of justice when he entered the victim's house and threatened his wife and children.

Investigating officer Dc Dene McPherson said: "This was an unprovoked and persistent attack, where a man was left bleeding and lying on the ground. Some months later, Lamport made threats to the victim and his family before his trial in an attempt to stop the victim attending court.

"Surrey Police is committed to bringing offenders to justice and this sentence sends a strong message that this type of violent behaviour will not be tolerated in Surrey."
