For those of you raised on fast and acrobatic fighter jets, chest-bumping volleyball and the music of Berlin, there is now a chance to go back to where it all began in 1986.

After 30 years away, Tom Cruise – also known as Maverick – returns to the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor programme in Top Gun Maverick (12A), which is the Phoenix Cinema presentation at The Phoenix Theatre and Arts Centre in Bordon on November 2 at 7.30pm.

But instead of being an ace fighter pilot in his prime, Maverick must confront his past as he trains a group of younger pilots, among them the son of his dead best friend Lieutenant Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw.

The film also stars Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller. For tickets, priced £6 (£5 concessions/members), visit www.phoenixarts.co.uk

People who prefer visiting a picture house in daylight can go for Afternoon Cinema at the Phoenix, which features Death On The Nile (12A) on November 1 at 2.30pm.

Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot’s vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer turns into a terrifying search for a murderer when a picture-perfect couple’s idyllic honeymoon is tragically cut short.

Set against an epic landscape of sweeping Egyptian desert vistas and the majestic Giza pyramids, this tale of unbridled passion and incapacitating jealousy features a cosmopolitan group of impeccably dressed travellers, and enough wicked twists and turns to leave the audience guessing until the final, shocking denouement.

It stars Kenneth Branagh, Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Armie, Hammer, Gal Gadot, Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French. For tickets, priced £6 (£5 concessions/members), visit www.phoenixarts.co.uk

The Phoenix will also present The Cube’s Comedy Club, taking place at The Shed in Bordon, on November 3 at 8pm.

This month it features Kevin Shepherd, Rachel Jackson and Arielle Souma.

Arielle is a French-Ivorian, Rachel is from Scotland and Kevin hails from Bognor Regis.
