Sir, - I refer to your letter headed "Growing weakness of the Commons" published on November 17. The writer concludes by saying "If we are to maintain the health and rigour of our democracy within a sovereign Britain, we need to take an interest now by giving active support to the party that best represents our convictions and making our voices heard to shape the party's policies."
May I suggest that the party deserving our full support is the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP)? We cannot trust the Conservatives. They have adopted a mask of Euroscepticism for electoral advantage, but in power they have never done anything but advance us towards the European state.
They signed us up for the Single Market, a con designed to increase Euro control of the economy. They forced MPs to vote for Maastricht. MPs were blackmailed, bullied and press-ganged into signing away the country's rights by supposed Eurosceptics. All egged on by the party's Euro MPs.
Now Mr Hague is deceiving people with his little mantra about wanting to be "in Europe, but not run by Europe". They pretend they can reform the EU from within. They claim to want a veto over those policies they do not agree with. It is simply not possible for any country to adopt some sort of "Pick 'n' Mix" policy. That would need all the other members to agree, which they would not do just to suit Britain, so the Tories will not be able to stop the process of federalism.
Although people want to believe that the party they have always supported will not sell them down the river, are increasingly coming to realise the awful truth, which is why so many past party stalwarts are now supporting the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP).
