WHITEHILL Town Council this week formally set in motion plans for a Whitehill and Bordon town design statement.

The statement was highlighted as a "priority" for the council at an April workshop - facilitated by the Government homes and communities agency - but the idea isn't original.

Town councillor Adam Carew said he and councillor Chris Wain pursued the idea of a design statement "years ago" and were informed by East Hampshire District Council that, with more technical documents such as the eco-town masterplan in the pipeline, it could not be considered a priority.

"The biggest problem for us has been the lack of officer support," Mr Carew said. "We just need a bit of support to get it moving along."
