UNTAXED and abandoned vehicles could soon be a rare sight in Bordon if East Hampshire District Council agrees to Whitehill Town CouncilÕs request.
It was agreed at a meeting of the town council on Monday to ask EHDC, as part of its Community Safety Strategy, to identify and remove all untaxed and dangerous cars from the parish.
The cars would be removed in cooperation with local housing associations and Whitehill Police.
Members of the town council felt that the abandoned vehicles posed a danger to the public.
Ian Dowdle, councillor on the planning and amenities committee, said: ÒThese cars are quite dangerous and there is a problem in Bordon with parking which isnÕt helped by these abandoned vehicles.Ó
Basil Smith agreed with Mr Dowdle. ÒCars are stuck in the road and dumped in Deadwater Valley but nobody wants to take responsibility for them. These cars need to be reported to the police so that something can be done,Ó he said.
Zoya Faddy, district councillor, told the committee that she had received a number of phonecalls from residents complaining about the abandonedvehiclesÓ.
ÒThe cars may have petrol in their tanks and the windows get broken by children. They are a danger to the community and I think we need a coordinated campaign to remove them from the town,Ó she said.
