CROWDS gathered at Whitehill and Bordon's war memorial on Tuesday to mark Armistice Day.

The annual Service of Remembrance saw military personnel, serving and ret-ired, and dignitaries laying wreaths and observing the traditional silence.

Primary school children were also invited to plant crosses at the memorial.

Conducting the service, Reverend Wendy Mallas said this year's Remembrance Day was particularly special as it not only marks the centenary of the start of the First World War, but also the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the year British troops pulled out of the more recent Afghanistan conflict.
