A TWO-minute silence will be observed in Castle Street at 11am on Thursday (May 10), exactly 102 years after the first ever two-minute silence was observed on the same spot in 1916.

The centenary of the local legacy drew in remarkable crowds to Castle Street on May 10, 2016, as thousands gathered for ‘Time to Remember’ - a one-off event organised by the Farnham Maltings and Farnham Town Council modelled on the original wartime event in 1916.

This year’s gathering will be a more intimate affair, confirms the Maltings’ director Gavin Stride, but will “stay true” to its roots, remembering “all those who have and are serving around the world in our armed services”.
