WHETHER it is the lurid pink paintwork of Wey Hill public lavatories or the vivid blue of those in Haslemere's central car park, one thing is certain - town councillor Jacquie Keen wants to see rid of them and something better put in their place.
"The public conveniences are a disgrace to this town and the best thing to do is to knock them down," she told town councillors this week.
Mrs Keen made her comments at Haslemere Town Council's finance and general purposes committee, after expressing a preference to work in the subject areas of CCTV and public lavatories, as part of the town council's forward management plan.
After the meeting Mrs Keen said she had lobbied Waverley Borough Council "quite a few times" over the conditions of the toilets when she was mayor of the town in 1995.
"I said how disgusted I was with the toilets - they are always smelly and I just feel we could do better," she said.
"I'm not saying it is all down to Waverley and the cleaners, the toilets are outdated and should be brought up to standard with somebody local looking after them," said Mrs Keen.
