WAVERLEY Borough Council proposes to close some of Farnham's public toilet facilities to help achieve £10,000 savings for 2004/2005.
The toilets facing permanent closure include those on West Street and South Street, both of which are shut at present.
According to the council, the West Street toilets have been closed since April due to repeated vandalism and their apparent low level of use.
The South Street facilities would require extensive rebuilding at an estimated cost of £30,000 if they were to stay open, due to subsidence to the rear of the building.
Waverley's policy committee will on Monday consider the recommendation that both facilities be declared surplus to requirements and that any receipt generated by the disposal of the West Street building will be reserved to offset the cost of demolishing the South Street facility.
Commenting on the proposed closures, Liberal Democrat councillor Willy Marshall said: "Our toilet facilities are very poor compared to other places.
"My personal feeling is that the function of the public toilets should have been handed to the town or parish council."
A Waverley spokesman responded: "We offered management of all public conveniences to the respective town and parish councils. Farnham Town Council expressed an initial interest but then decided against it."
